Push Notifications
Push notifications let your community send you alerts directly to your device — even when the app is not open. You control which types of notifications you receive and through which channel.
Requirements
Before enabling push notifications, confirm:
- You have installed the app or are using the community in a supported browser
- Your device and browser support push notifications (see compatibility table below)
Push notifications on iOS require iOS 16.4 or later and Safari. Earlier iOS versions do not support push notifications from web apps, regardless of browser.
Platform compatibility
| Platform | Push support |
|---|---|
| Android Chrome | Yes |
| Android Edge / Samsung Internet | Yes |
| iOS Safari (iOS 16.4+) | Yes |
| iOS Safari (below iOS 16.4) | No |
| Desktop Chrome | Yes |
| Desktop Firefox | Yes |
| Desktop Safari | No |
Enabling Push Notifications
- Go to Settings in the app (tap the Me tab, then Settings)
- Find the Push Notifications section
- Tap Enable Push Notifications
- When prompted by your browser or OS, tap Allow
Once allowed, your device is registered and you will start receiving push alerts based on your preferences.
Managing Notification Preferences
After enabling push, you can control exactly which activities trigger a notification and how.
- Go to Settings > Notification Preferences
- You will see a grid of notification categories and delivery channels
- Toggle each combination on or off
Categories and channels
| Category | Push | |
|---|---|---|
| Direct Messages | Toggle | Toggle |
| Events | Toggle | Toggle |
| Posts | Toggle | Toggle |
| Comments | Toggle | Toggle |
| Membership | Toggle | Toggle |
| Courses | Toggle | Toggle |
Available categories depend on your community's configuration. Your admin may add or remove categories.
Each category can be set to:
- Push — receive a device notification
- Email — receive an email
- Both — receive both
- Neither — receive nothing for that category
Changes save automatically.
Disabling Push Notifications
Turn off all push notifications
- Go to Settings > Notification Preferences
- Toggle off Push for every category
Or, to unsubscribe entirely:
- Go to Settings > Push Notifications
- Tap Disable Push Notifications
Your device is removed from the notification list. You will not receive push alerts until you re-enable.
Turn off at the OS level
You can also disable notifications through your device settings:
- iOS — Settings > [Community App Name] > Notifications > toggle off
- Android — Settings > Apps > [Community App Name] > Notifications > toggle off
Disabling at the OS level overrides any in-app preference.
If You Denied the Permission
If you tapped Block or Don't Allow when the browser first asked for permission, the app cannot show the prompt again automatically. To re-enable:
On Android Chrome:
- Tap the lock icon in the address bar
- Tap Notifications
- Change from Block to Allow
- Reload the page
On iOS Safari:
- Open Settings on your iPhone
- Scroll to Safari > Notifications
- Find your community and set to Allow
- Return to the app and enable push again from Settings
