Offline and Refresh
The installed app keeps a local copy of recently visited pages so you can still read content when your connection drops. It also supports a pull-to-refresh gesture to load the latest data.
Pull-to-Refresh
When you want to reload the current page without navigating away, use the pull-to-refresh gesture.
How to use it
- Make sure you are scrolled to the top of the page
- Press and hold on the screen, then swipe downward
- A spinner appears and grows as you pull
- Pull down at least 80 pixels (roughly a thumb's length) until the spinner is fully visible
- Release your finger
- The page reloads with the latest content
Notes:
- Pull-to-refresh only works in the installed app (standalone mode), not in a regular browser tab
- It requires a working network connection — pulling while offline will not load new data
- If a refresh is already in progress, additional pulls are ignored until it completes
Offline Behavior
When you lose your internet connection, the app continues to work for content you have already visited.
What works offline
| Feature | Offline behavior |
|---|---|
| Previously visited Feed | Readable from cache |
| Previously visited Spaces | Readable from cache |
| Your Profile (Me tab) | Readable from cache |
| Settings | Readable from cache |
| App navigation | Works normally |
| Static assets (images, icons) | Load from cache |
What does not work offline
| Feature | Why |
|---|---|
| New posts and comments | Require a network request |
| Direct messages | Real-time; require network |
| Payments and membership actions | Require a secure network connection |
| Login / logout | Never cached for security |
| Posting or replying | Write actions require network |
| Unseen pages | Only cached pages are available |
Offline indicator
When your connection is lost, a banner appears to let you know some features are unavailable. Cached pages remain readable; actions that require the network will show an error until connectivity is restored.
Cache and Data Freshness
The app caches pages you have visited so they load quickly and remain available offline. Cached content may be slightly out of date — use pull-to-refresh to get the latest version when you are back online.
When cache is cleared automatically
Your cached data is cleared automatically in these situations:
- You log out — all cached pages and data are wiped to protect your privacy
- You switch to a different community — cache is cleared for the previous community
- The app updates — a new version may clear old caches during the update process
After logging out and back in, pages will reload fresh from the network on first visit.
Force-refreshing stale content
If a page looks out of date and pull-to-refresh does not help:
- Close the app completely (swipe it away from your app switcher)
- Reopen from your home screen
- The page will reload from the network
On desktop, you can press Ctrl + Shift + R (Windows/Linux) or Cmd + Shift + R (Mac) to force a hard reload.
